Nexuiz insta Offline#
There’s the inclusion of an offline mode which pits you against various customizable AIs, buts it’s a largely forgettable experience that even the most hardcore player will probably find extraneous. In terms of game modes, Nexuiz‘s options are somewhat limited. The end result is a strangely compelling shooter experience where randomness and luck play as much a role as skill and speed. Mutators run the gamut of providing health bonuses such as a regeneration or jetpacks or - much more interestingly - targeting the opposition with penalties such as inverted controls or forcing them to switch to a third-person perspective. It’s a tried-and-true formula that’s hardly novel and might be otherwise completely forgettable if not for the inclusion of “Mutators.” These are collectable items which are picked up at random or by carrying out specific achievements such as killing sprees. Like any good first-person shooter worth its armor-piercing ammunition, there are also a variety of weapons to choose from, including the now-standard shotgun, rocket launcher, pistol and sniper rifle.
Strategy and planning take a back seat to frantic button mashing as players spawn, kill and spawn again almost as quickly as they can pull the trigger. In terms of overall gameplay Nexuiz is really all about speed. Players, however, will probably be far too busy blasting each other out of existence to take in the panoramic vistas. The game looks stunning thanks to the much-touted CryEngine 3 (which powered last year’s smash-hit Crysis 2) and from futuristic cityscapes to sprawling ancient ruins, the maps are absolutely beautiful to behold. Article contentįortunately, Nexuiz‘s visuals more than make up for its shoddy attempt at storytelling. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. There is a story of sorts crammed into the various load screens which has to do with unpronounceable alien races locked in gladiatorial combat for the amusement of the unwashed galactic masses, but it’s the kind of pungent video game schlock that gamers have been subjected to for years now and could have easily been done away with. The game features nine maps, nine weapons and pits two teams of four players against one another online.
Nexuiz insta mod#
Why publisher THQ has decided to dust off an obscure mod out of digital purgatory after all these years is a bit of a mystery, but fans of twitch-kill arena shooters will find plenty to love here, despite the game being marred by some frustrating online issues.Like the Unreal Tournament series and other first-person arena shooters of its kind, Nexuiz focuses on small multiplayer maps that lend themselves to a rapid-fire style of gameplay. Turns it was first developed over a decade ago as a mod for the popular first-person shooter Quake - a game which I had spent countless hours playing as a prepubescent geek. At the risk of calling my geek credentials into question, I’ll admit that up until about a month ago I hadn’t even heard of Nexuiz before, much less was able to pronounce its name correctly.
